Company History

Over the last Thirty years, Midasco has evolved from a Woman Owned Business (WBE) Steel Contractor servicing the Baltimore/Washington area to one of the premiere infrastructure contractor in the Mid-Atlantic, South East and South Central United States.

 BeginingHow It Began

Midasco was founded by Joe Dunn and Regina McManus as Mid-Atlantic Steel Contractors in 1982 as a reinforcing steel installation company.  Operating in the early years as a woman owned business (WBE), the Company and staff soon grew and its ability to manage projects improved.  The Company expanded its scope of services in 1989 to include the furnishing and installation of highway signing. Around this time the Company name changed to Midasco, Inc. to reflect the expanded range of services. With several years of successfully completing signing projects, Midasco expanded in 1994 to include roadway lighting services and again in 1995 to include traffic signals. In 1998, to build on its base in the highway construction industry and to capitalize on an emerging transportation market, Midasco started performing intelligent transportation systems (ITS) work.

Through the 1990s and early 2000s, Midasco worked on many of Maryland and Virginia's signature roadway and bridge projects including Springfield Interchange, Woodrow Wilson Bridge, I-64 widening, Route 288 PPTA, I-695 widening, and Route 29 corridor improvements.

Expanding Our Reachlighting

In January of 2006 the Company was recapitalized to allow the original owners to exit. The continuing company was formed as Midasco, LLC, a Delaware corporation, operating without its original WBE designation. With this transition, Midasco stopped pursuing reinforcing steel installation and focused on signing, lighting, traffic signals, and ITS construction and maintenance.  Shortly, Midasco expanded beyond its traditional geographic footprint of Maryland and Virginia and opened offices in North Carolina and Georgia.  In addition, the scope of services was expanded to include tolling infrastructure.

From 2006 to 2012 Midasco continued working on signature projects including Maryland’s InterCounty Connector, Virginia’s Telegraph Road Interchange and the 495 HOT Lanes.  Design/build and public private partnership delivery methods became more of a focus during this time period and are now a strategic focus of the company.

A New Chapter

On June 10, 2011 the owners of Midasco sold one hundred percent of the member units to Spanish construction giant ACS (Actividades de Construcción y Servicios, S.A. also known as Grupo ACS or the ACS Group).  ACS known as a worldwide company focused on construction, concessions, the environment, industrial services and strategic investments.  The Midasco acquisition was made through ACS subsidiary ImesApi in its Industrial Services Division. With the change in ownership, Midasco continued to operate independently as a wholly owned subsidiary of ImesApi.  In early 2012 Midasco again expanded its scope of services to include utilities and rail.

Continuing To Expand

With the backing of ACS, Midasco continues to grow and has expanded our services to Florida and Texas. We look forward to continuing to help build and maintain America’s infrastructure.
